South America is a continent with a rich variety of cultures. Each country’s history is unique, providing an interesting backdrop to the development of each's economic and legal systems. Given the continent's geographic and biological diversity as well, South America is an important trading partner to many countries of the world for numerous minerals, crops, and livestock. The countries of South America have also entered into regional agreements with institutions such as the Andean Community, Mercosur, and Unasur. All of these characteristics touch upon numerous areas of law such as trade law, indigenous rights, environmental law, human rights law and criminal law. AUWCL provides several opportunities in Colombia (Arboleda, Los Andes, Rosario), Chile, and Argentina, and is actively forging new relationships with other countries to develop the student’s skills and abilities to participate in South America as an international lawyer.
