Program Description:

General

The Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria ranks amongst the top law faculties in South Africa and is one of the most sought-after law faculties in the country by students and prospective employers. The Faculty is home to 60 dedicated full-time academics, half of which have doctoral degrees in various fields of law. These academics are supported by highly motivated administrative and support staff. Together they serve the student community and the public at large.

Writing and publishing are foremost on the Faculty’s agenda. Much time is therefore invested in improving the writing skills of students while at the same time academic staff are supported and encouraged to publish. The Faculty houses accredited legal journals and publications, such as De Jure, THRHR, the African Human Rights Law Journal and the African Human Rights Law Reports. The Pretoria Student Law Review publishes articles by law students and is funded and supported by the Faculty and managed by law students. Academic books and publications may also be published via the Pretoria University Law Press (PULP).university of pretoria

Academics

The University of Pretoria language policy is flexible to accommodate students in English as well as Afrikaans.
The Spring Term focuses more on Human Rights topics. The Fall Term focuses on Business law topics.

Student's have the opportunity to rewrtie exams. Students who should rewrite exams, are advised to postpone their departure dates. UP will not allow rewrite of exams to be done outside South Africa. Again, it is the duty of the students to check with the faculty upon arrival when the exams of the courses registered for would take place.

Please note: Students need to also make sure before registration that the courses they register for are semester courses and not year courses.

Housing and Cost of Living
The school's International Students Division arranges accommodation for exchange, study abroad and elective students, but is subject to availability and is allocated on a first come first serve basis.
